X-Men Franchise Goes To The Kiddies

Twentieth Century Fox is ready to continue making X-Men movies. However the next film will not be a part four, but rather the beginning of a whole new franchise.

Gossip Girls writer, Josh Schwartz has been brought on to write his first big screen script, X-Men: First Class, which will focus around the younger mutants at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

In the comic book world X-Men: First Class was a mini-series retelling of the original teams beginnings: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, Beast, Iceman and of course Professor X. However it is unlikely that the film of the same name will bear any resemblance.

Fox is refusing to confirm any details at this stage but apparently they have been leaning towards using the younger characters who have been introduced in the previous films, which would not make this film a prequel. Younger characters available to them are: Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat who’ve all been in the previous films in some form or another.

There is no word yet if any of the original cast will be returning step back into their characters shoes. It is being said that if this film does well, box office wise, then it will spawn its own series of sequels.

In other related X-men news there is already talks of a spin-off film for the unreleased Wolverine film. In the film actor Ryan Reynolds plays the over-talkative cybernetic assassin, Deadpool. Fox is considering this Deadpool spinoff.

Fox has stated that as long as the X-Men projects continued to perform in the box office then they will continue to make more films.
