Paramount’s Giving Bad Robot Some Big Bucks
By Mike Noyes - October 16, 2009 | Email the author

In a deal valued close to $2 million, Paramount has acquired an untitled feature pitch from screenwriters Aline Brosh McKenna and Simon Kinberg.

J.J. Abrams will produce the project with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot.

Paramount’s pricey purchase comes as a a bit of a surprise as most other studios have completely stopped development spending for the rest of ‘09.

Neither Paramount nor Bad Robot would discuss the plot of the untitled project, or how the different sensibilities of the writers might mesh.

McKenna is known for female-driven films including <IThe Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses and the upcoming Morning Glory while Kinberg focuses more action-drama with films such as Mr. And Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand and the upcoming Sherlock Holmes.

“These two writers couldn’t be more different, the genres they write seem almost diametrically opposed,” said Abrams. “But they came to Bad Robot with a pitch that thrilled us. We feel extremely lucky to get to work with this amazing team.”

McKenna and Kinberg recently worked worked together on a production rewrite of Date Night, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
