Third Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island

The third trailer for Shutter Island debuted as part of Spike TV’s “Scream 2009.” It has now made its way to the Internet. Have a look-see.

In Shutter Island, a pair of U.S. Marshals (Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo) travel to a secluded island off the coast of Massachusetts to search for an escaped mental patient, uncovering a web of deception along the way.

Based on Dennis Lehane’s (Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River) novel of the same name, the ’50s-era film is directed by Martin Scorsese, the stellar auteur of Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and most recently The Departed. The adaptation is from Laeta Kalogridis, of Pathfinder and Alexander previously. DiCaprio is supported by a strong cast with Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson and Jackie Earle Haley.

Shutter Island, originally scheduled for an October 2nd release, was pushed back for promotional concerns. (Leonardo DiCaprio was going to be unable to do international press tours.) The date the Paramount suits decided on was February 19, 2010. Why is February 19 important? It’s the same day that Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs was released in theatres back in 1991. Considering that the Best Picture category has increased from five to ten nominations, this adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s best-selling novel could get just get a nod.

  1. Would highly recommend reading the book before, or over seeing the movie. I’m sure it’ll be great and all, but I can barely watch the trailer, even with all these great stars and the director after reading the book. Great read from a great author (Dennis Lehane for those wondering…also wrote Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and other great reads.)
