It's something different, with pros and cons, though the overall movie holds up solid enough under the pressures of the bizarre happenings at certain moments. Basically as I stated, worthwhile if you know what you're likely going to be getting going in (knowing Richard Kelly,) but not so much if you're going based off the trailers (which most of the audiences likely were, thus the harsh reaction.) Rob, I already know what you're talking about as far as the 'sexist' aspect of the movie. I can see that being intentional, and in a sense, more likely in the scenarios presented - given the target subjects who were given this 'choice'...if that makes sense without going into spoiler territory. After listening to his director's commentary for "Donnie Darko," I'm convinced even Richard Kelly doesn't know what Richard Kelly movies are about. I mostly liked the film.
