Got to give it to Fox Searchlight for playing this film close to the chest, especially after Ameila failed to get off the runway. In Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges plays a has-been, alcoholic country singer who picks himself up and dusts himself off thanks to a reporter played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Oscar prognosticators would have us believe that Jeff Bridges will be a contender for Best Actor. After being nominated four times (his last coming in 2001 for The Contender) he’s got to win sometime, right?
This first trailer seems to have taken a page from Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, if only for Bridges’ disheveled appearance. Let Inside Pulse Movies know what you think!
Jeff Bridges stars as country singer Bad Blake in the feature film debut by writer-director Scott Cooper. Bad Blake is like every country song you’ve heard rolled up into one package. Broken-down and hard-living, Blake has seen his marriages fall apart because of his many years of traveling on the road; taking gigs wherever he can. He drinks too much, and yet is able to come to terms with the life he’s had with the help of Jean (Gyllenhaal), who discovers the man behind the musician. Crazy Heart also stars Robert Duvall and Collin Farrel.
Make no mistake, Crazy Heart is not a “Behind the Music” special you see on VH1.
The film hits theaters on December 16th 2009.
