Because Brooklyn’s Less Than Mediocre just doesn’t sound right

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”

Proof that even mediocrity can look good

After a quick “blink and you missed it” run in theatres, Everybody’s Fine is destined to be a film that people discover during the holidays between reruns of It’s a Wonderful Life and the numerous versions of A Christmas Carol.

The Informant! is a film screaming for a big, two disc edition that focuses on one of the biggest whistleblowers of our time. Instead we get a single disc with minimal extras.

The one disconnect many people have with cinema is that some actors don’t look like they could ever be in a real life job they play on screen. It’s hard to imagine Brad Pitt selling insurance, George Clooney working as a prison guard or Matt Damon as a call center supervisor. You could imagine Clive Owen in nearly any job, though, because he’s good looking in a rugged way. You could see him tending a bar, or as a Northwestern Mutual agent, if he wasn’t an actor. He’s not pretty, so at least he’s got that going for him in The Boys are Back. But not much else, apparently.

On tap this week:
