Okay, I know I’ve been skirting my feature duties. By my calculations I haven’t done an installment of “The Blu Room” since August. Damn I’m slow. As a way to alleviate this stack of recent Blu-rays on my desk, I’ve pondered a series of articles, each of which will spotlight a particular subject.
I have it on good authority that the suits at Warner Bros. have commissioned a Batman musical for Broadway. Not wanting to wait until 2011 for a sequel to grace theaters the world over, the musical will incorporate songs by rock legends the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top.
If the byline hasn’t already clued you in, this installment of “The Blu Room” is about a pair of stoner comedies that recently made its way to the format: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. And the timing couldn’t have been better, with Pineapple Express smoking its way up the box office charts.
Welcome to my first column, of what I hope to make a weekly occurrence. It’s something different, a way to deviate from individual reviews, bits of news and the occasional contest. Each week I will look at two or three current or upcoming Blu-ray releases and give my two cents. This week I take a look at Point Break, Drillbit Taylor, and WrestleMania 24, a strange threesome that’s for sure.
