The voice cast is certainly filled with A-List stars once again, but this time they seem to have brought more life to the characters. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, and Jada Pinkett-Smith all seemed to just be reading lines in the first film, but now it seems like they have made them their own rather than just bringing their personas to life in an animated animal character.

Robert Downey Jr., Tina Fey and Ben Stiller are in negotiations to lead the voice cast for DreamWorks Animation’s superhero caper Master Mind. Stiller is also a producer on the movie through his Red Hour Films.

From prestige pictures to summer blockbusters, movies are Hollywood’s proverbial golden goose. But with movies comes baggage, like those who have super egos or who are just spoiled brats on and off the set. As the son of comic thespians, Ben Stiller has seen all that the medium has to offer. Now he skewers it.

The animation in this film looks great as expected. It seems to improve with each new DreamWorks film. But the majority of the comedy in here is strictly for kids. There are lots of clever pop-culture references that only adults will probably get, but they are fewer of those kinds of laughs than you would find in any Shrek film. Instead the comedy is mostly wacky slapstick that kids are sure to love. So if this film appeals to kids, there has to be a message to it right? Well not really. If you had to point out a message that can be learned from this film, it’s might be “friends come in all colors, shapes, and sizes”, but that notion gets lost halfway through the film when one “friend” wants to eat the another.

No other genre of film is as “hit or miss” than the “romantic comedy” genre. In reality, the “hits” are few and far between. The reason for that is simple. Most romantic comedies have the same basic plot, since most screenwriters simply hit “cut and paste” when writing this type of movie.
