It’s been five years since Sideways, but now it looks like writer-director Alexander Payne is putting the finishing touches on next screenplay, a social satire about miniature people entitled Downsizing. Already, he’s put together a pretty impressive cast.
In less than a week, Fox Searchlight has acquired not one, but two properties at the Toronto International Film Festival that could potentially position themselves in the Juno (formerly Little Miss Sunshine, formerly Sideways, formerly The Full Monty) slot for Best Picture at Oscars.
Just days after Darren Aronofsky’s film, The Wrestler, won the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it was embroiled in a bidding war tug-of-war between a number of studios at the Toronto International Film Festival. The victor, Fox Searchlight, acquired the U.S. rights for about $4 million.
